At the 29th Symposium on Fine Food + Drink, Flanders will take participants on a culinary journey to northern Belgium. The Flemish have been known as epicureans for centuries; good food and drink are central to their regional identity. As the birthplace of French fries and, believe it or not, over 1,150 types of beer, the northernmost region of the Kingdom of Belgium is well known for its hearty delicacies. The Flemish North Sea coast, on the other hand, offers light, digestible enjoyment: Fish and seafood will spoil your palate. For lovers of sweet taste, this culinary landscape is known for fine chocolate and delicately melting pralines. Flanders also has a dynamic restaurant scene. From award-winning star cuisine to young rebels behind the stove, who make a name for themselves with zero-waste concepts, Flemish cuisine offers a multi-faceted variety of good and extraordinary flavours. The Flemish exhibitors will bring the wealth of their native food industry to Munich for two days. The highly anticipated Symposium on Fine Food + Drink in Munich on 14 and 15 June 2018 seamlessly continued its 28 year success story. With more than 140 exhibitors, the 2018 market place was more diverse and colourful than ever. Alongside the established international companies, numerous start-ups impressed with their innovative products and new food ideas. After an extensive culinary discovery tour through the market place, participants took part in a top-level expert conference in Kesselhaus on 15 June. Renowned speakers dealt with the issues that are currently driving the food industry. Keynote speaker Stephan Grünewald (Managing Director of Rheingold) demonstrated how digital app solutions have found their way into food industry strategies, while Stephan Knäble (Global Head of Consumer Panels, GfK) explained the digital challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the industry, and Thomas Storck (CEO, METRO Cash & Carry Germany) talked about how customer service is changing in the digital world.
